Seasonal Shifts: Organizing for the End of the Year

Fall leaves on the tree frozen in ice.

This past weekend, we had Daylight Savings in my part of the world and feels like a seasonal shift. The mornings are increasingly crisp, and we have only seven weeks left in the year.

The final stretch of the year often brings a blend of excitement and overwhelm. This can include digital chaos as more people reach out to connect for the holiday season, alongside a flood of sales emails tempting us with gift ideas.

Now is the perfect time to:

  • Unsubscribe from sales emails for brands we no longer resonate with
  • Clear out downloaded files and browser caches
  • Review taxes –  can we make charitable donations to offset what we owe?
  • Assess our insurance – is there time for a dental appointment or a massage to fully use our benefits?
  • Clean up our contact list – archive contacts we no longer need quick access to.

This is also a great time to tackle physical clutter, like seasonally reviewing our wardrobes, boxing up unused items, and donating them to charity for someone in need. With the colder months settling in, checking our outerwear essentials like gloves and a toque/beanie ensures we’re prepared for winter. Most of us hold onto clothes we rarely wear, if ever; now could be the ideal moment to clear out the closet. When bringing out holiday decorations, consider what to keep, repurpose, or donate so someone else can enjoy them this season.

These last seven weeks of the year will go by quickly. Setting aside time to streamline business systems can help us start the New Year fresh. The space between the holidays and New Year is a perfect opportunity to reflect on how we want to organize and simplify both our business and personal lives moving forward.

The seasonal shift can be challenging for us and those we love. Waking and commuting in the dark and returning home at nightfall can make our days feel heavier. Remember, every season has its highs and lows, from soft snow blanketing the landscape to cozy gatherings around a roaring fire—or even just a TV showing a fire! Be gentle with yourself this time of year 💜.
